The term REALTOR® identifies professionals in the real estate business that are, members of a local Board or Association of REALTORS® and correspondingly, also members of a State Association and of the National Association of REALTORS®. These professionals, by belonging to these Associations, agree to adhere to a strict Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice spells out, what some say can be summed up by the Golden Rule, "Whatsoever ye would that others should do to you, do ye even so to them." Therefore the term REALTOR® has come to connote competency, fairness, and high integrity. A REALTOR® can be engaged in any aspect of the real estate profession including: selling, buying, exchanging, renting or leasing, appraising, counseling, financing, building, and developing.
